The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are huge. Beds and pillows are the best that we have yet experienced in Japan. Separate toilet in its own room is a big plus and the bathroom - wow! A super modern Japanese and western shower and a bathtub with a small jet function to get micro bubbles (and also a tv to enjoy while bathing). Excellent amenities. Walk about 5 minutes to get in a subway. Walk about 7-10 minutes to get to the other side of river where the night life is active. Location of the hotel is in the beautiful old Gion districts north side close to the river. Coffee and green tea and black tea from the breakfast was very good. I would definitely recommend to stay here if you can afford the room price. If you get a deal with less than 150-200€/day it’s definitely worth it. My price for two nights was a little over 40 000 yen in the highest floor with a view to the Gion city in February.

The Alza was by far our favourite hotel we stayed in during 2 weeks in Japan. The facilities in the room were better than any I have come across before even in 5* accommodation making it so relaxing and comfortable. Large triple room, multiple lighting options, switch controlled window coverings, movement-sensored night lights for bathroom use, separate toilet, washbasin area and bath/shower room, lovely tea and biscuit welcome pack, lots of small touches such as proper wine glasses, cutlery and bottle opener and all presented in an elegant Japanese inspired decor in western room. The location was also perfect for wandering around the Gion district and also between 2 stations for easy access to anywhere in the city. Can not fault this hotel and will definitely recommend it to anyone I know visiting Kyoto. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

What a fantastic little hotel this is. Ou room overlooked the river. The room is one of the nicest we have stayed in, beautiflly appointed and definitely has the best range of useful accessories in the room I've ever seen. Everything you could possibly need is already in the room from adapter plugs, dressing gowns, cutlery, crockery, glasses, bottle openers, free water, hair straightener, razors, etc etc. The beds are comfy. Do have the Japanese breakfast which is like a bento box with lots of small dishes to try. The staff completely cleaned the room every day and even changed things like the soap. Everything is electric including the toilets and blinds. The location is also good, in the Gion area and close to Sanjo station. Fabulous. We were there 5 nights.

Beautiful boutique style hotel - great mix of traditional and modern just like Kyoto. Very handy location to countless restaurant options and shopping. We had a wonderful time strolling the area (being mindful of the rules around taking photos in some spots and where they request tourists don’t go to respect the privacy of locals and geishas). 7/11 within a minute walk. Friendly staff who helped us get a taxi, spoke to the driver for us and waved us goodbye. Left a nice welcome note in the room with delicious biscuits. Our room was so spacious and we loved having a balcony to people watch. Appreciated having the toilet seperate to the main bathroom.

Every little detail was well thought out. They consider themselves a 2-star property on their site but in reality, the amenities were first rate and very modern. I even liked that the shower would shut off after a certain period of time; this helps conserve water. Comfortable beds, lovely white sheets, beautiful seating areas in the corner room with the river view, many adjustable lighting settings, above all very clean surroundings. The staff are helpful and will not hesitate to assist you. It was also right at the start of the Gion district and still can easily access the modern parts of the city just over the bridge.
